Watoto Read is building benches to seat school children living in refugee camps in Goz Beida, Chad. Currently, many classes are taught in unfurnished rooms, with children sitting on thin mats on the sandy dirt floor. Without benches or desks, not only are the children uncomfortable, but they do not have a good writing surface, making it harder to learn. Each bench costs a little over $100 to construct and they are manufactured by local refugee craftsman. Each bench provides seating for up to 5 children.

100 new benches construction in 2019.

In 2019, Watoto Read transferred funds for the construction of 100 benches for unfurnished classrooms. In early 2020, funds were sent to JRS for the construction of an additional 200 benches. In total, the 300 benches provide seating for 1500 students.
